Love consists of this: two solitudes that meet, protect and greet each other.
— Rainer Maria Rilke

Sunlight

I usually take pictures of myself modeling my jewelry on our first floor balcony, which faces a busy street. The best light is between 2 to 4 pm, which coincides with lunch time, and allows many people to closely observe the woman on the balcony taking pictures of herself. If I appear serious in my photographs, it's because I am ignoring cat calls and stares as I try my best to look natural and relaxed.

This week, my neighbor was on vacation, so I was able to calmly take pictures in the bright, quiet courtyard at the entrance to her apartment. Oh the joy of privacy!

Sunlight earrings.

Adaptation

I recently saw a documentary that showed how a wild tiger hunts its prey by moving its 500 pound body across fallen leaves without making a sound. It fails more times than it succeeds, but this practice makes it one of the most graceful and magnificent animals in nature.

Adaptation ring.
Handmade with Chiapas amber and 100% recycled sterling silver.

Departure

Where do the words go that did not remain?
Where do the glances go that one day departed?
Do they float eternal, like prisoners of a gale?
Or do they snuggle, between cracks, seeking warmth?
Do they roll on crystals, passing for raindrops?
Do they ever turn into something?
Do they go?
And where do they go?
Where do they go?
— Silvio Rodriguez

Departure ring.
Handmade with labradorite and 100% recycled sterling silver.

Listen to Silvio's song here.

Recognition ring.
Handmade with chrysocolla and 100% recycled sterling silver.

Lighthouse

It is not the end of the physical body that should worry us. Rather, our concern must be to live while we’re alive - to release our inner selves from the spiritual death that comes with living behind a facade designed to conform to external definitions of who and what we are.
— Elisabeth Kubler-Ross

Lighthouse ring.
Handmade with transparent quartz and 100% recycled sterling silver.

Origin

I once read an interview where an artist couple was asked how they learnt their craft. We had to make a lot of mistakes until we got really good –they replied– and then we had to get bad again, because being really good is not that interesting.

Origin bracelet.
Handmade with hawk's eye and 100% recycled sterling silver.

Relic

I tend to have lucid dreams in which fears that are usually at the back of my mind act out as characters. In my latest dream, I am visiting an old amusement park made of mud and rock. I used to visit it when I was younger to play in the shallow pools, hiding treasures in stone temples.

Now I am there with Abhaya and we are given a tour. The place seems slightly different, but not much, except that things move around as I look at them. Bits of land turn into islands and float away, and shrines slide off walls. One contains a weathered Nintendo console I once hid, but it drifts off as soon as I recognize it.

For fun, I decide to jump off a cliff into a deep pool, but as I fall and fall and fall I wonder why I never reach the water. The guide tells me I am not really falling. I am on a platform that is simulating a fall through virtual reality technology. I am perplexed. The world is no longer as I know it.

Relic bracelet.
